India Hicks ‘Island Living’ Jewelry

It comes with little coincidence, as we plan by the same coastal calendar – one marked with the opening and closing of crawfish & grouper season and the rising & lowering of tides – that I and Island Connoisseur India Hicks’ creative inspirations ride the same wave. Although, whereas The 700 Experience recognizes the August 1st opening of the much-anticipated crawfish season through words, India does so through “Palms, Fish, Moons, Arrows” – the latest introduction to her India Hicks ‘Island Living’ Jewelry Collection.

“To this day I see local fishermen on Eleuthera, the island I live on, diving with spears. Sometimes two. They might not look quite as traditional as these arrows but they are certainly related” says Hicks about the gold vermeil and diamond Bows & Arrows which come in the shape of pendants, earrings and a cuff too. The free-spirited Hicks adds, “my own children grew up on this island playing endlessly and yes, alarmingly with bows and arrows.” That said, given their fine and delicate design they are ever the contrast in metal and size to the sharpened spears you see our local fishermen carrying in hand along with that day’s fresh catch. But as always with Hicks – whether referring to her flirting in the world of jewelry, book or interior design, the source of her inspiration is ever a reflection of our island life.

So do view the entire collection here. Or if you are lucky enough to be on Harbour Island do pop in to the Sugar Mill Trading Company.
