Tom Scheerer’s Abaco Abode
Two-hundred yards from a sheltered stretch of sand sits a designer’s dwelling said to have been originally sketched on a napkin slip. Designed from start-to-finish by famed interior designer, Tom Scheerer, this Bahamas beachfront beauty is best suited for travellers in search of a touch of seclusion on land and at sea, even on the fishing flats. Dressed in Scheerer’s signature style, the series of small buildings are separated by six pavilions, complete with connecting courtyards. This child-free zone is the perfect parcel of paradise in which to vacation with a group of friends who create their own fun, or a couple or two.

1. Central to the six pavilions that compromise the compound is a swimming pool with cleverly situated Coralina-stone steps that seamlessly plunge in to the pool.
2. Beyond the front door is an open-air foyer anchored with a lantern fashioned from an Indonesian fish-trap.
3. Low-lying slipcovered sofas grant unobstructed views of the sea.
4. A kitchen covered in Scheerer’s signature style of graphic tiles; these being custom-made encaustic cement tiles from Villa Lagoon Tile.
5. In the bathroom a grass skirt smartly hides pipes.
6. Paired with two perfectly positioned windows, the pickled-white-acaia four-poster bed offers clear views to outside.
7. Roofed with bamboo fencing, the pergola offers a shaded spot under which to take in views of the sea.
