Dropping Anchor Off Pipe Cay, Exumas
Holding victim to many unskilled sailor, like all shifting sand-banks dotting the Exumas, the sand spits at the entrance to the channel hugging the south-eastern shore of Pipe Cay are only visible at low tide. A favourite resting spot among boaters seeking refuge from the wind and crowds, lining the edge of the clear shallows is a sea floor that dramatically drops to eight feet, ten in some parts. The waterway, situated a short tender ride from Compass Cay, is an ideal spot to anchor before a walk along the exposed stretch of sand in search of memorable beach finds.
