Grand Isle Resort

Seldom do the words “travel” and “style” escape my lips without being uttered in the same sentence, for I prefer one not to exist without the other when visiting a nook of the world that isn’t New Providence, the small dot of an island I call home. Needless to say, never did I expect to experience –  just 120 miles southeast of said island – travel and style existing in such a unique way as it does at Grand Isle Resort & Spa on Great Exuma.

It was a long three-day weekend, as are most during the hot summer months in The Bahamas, a coincidence? We tend to give it little thought. A forty-minute plane ride over the northern cays and varying depths of The Exumas has brought me to the resort awarded not one, but two coveted spots on TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice lists of Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the Caribbean and Top 25 Relaxation & Spa Hotels in the Caribbean. Rightfully nominated I think, noting how the sweeping views over the length of the Greg Norman designed golf-course get all the more breathtaking as we ascend the steps of our villa’s staircase. It’s an architectural element worthy of not being overlooked, as it allows guests such as myself to make the most of their villa’s view during the bright hours of the day. It’s in villas such as the spacious two-bedroom Bahai Mar and Grand Villa, or three-bedroom Lucayan, that beds dominate the lower level – waiting to be slept in after sun-soaked hours spent on nearby Emerald Bay Beach. And above a studio like layout, complete with a dining area, kitchen and living room meet the views of the Atlantic Ocean through glass paneled doors.

Going beyond the architectural blueprint of the 78 villas are well-appointed interiors deserving of being featured in the glossiest of design magazines, for no the more reason than to highlight their uniqueness – as no two are exactly the same. Touring villas ranging in size from 1,250 to 5,000+ square feet and in the varying styles of traditional, contemporary, classic and nautical, I feel like I’m a part of a study in interior design. It’s details such as the orange and grey colour palette and bamboo-style bench that catch my eye.Where To Stay Exumas Bahamas_Grand Isle Resort
