BAHA Styles: Escape Worthy Entrances
Should you ever spot me, walking with camera in hand, on one of the quaint and narrow golf-cart-only-alleyways of Man-O-War-Cay, Hope Town, Guana Cay, Green Turtle Cay, or Harbour Island. Where the historic streets are dotted with homes dressed in colonial charm and flush against them are entrances, well, begging to be entered. Then you should know this. As I stand there, in a pose typically reserved for a more skillful photographer, framing said entrance with my camera and just about to release the shutter, I am likely thinking. How does one get invited in to discover the style of interiors beyond the front-door? The same is thought when I visit one of the more larger islands of The Bahamas – such as: Eleuthera, New Providence, Andros even. Although, my masked desire is much more obvious as I pull my car to the edge of the road to take in the view of a long sweeping drive. You see, on these islands the land is more untouched and it lends to those resident seeking seclusion and privacy. Though, there are noticeable similarities between all the islands, regardless of their size. You are sure to always find cascading fauna liken to the tropics, sweeping awnings of fiery bougainvillea and an abundance of coconut trees – what I fondly refer to as nature’s pillars.
All this to be said, I’ve rallied up five of my favourite Escape Worthy Entrances as featured on Damianos Sotheby’s International Realty. And luckily you can see the interiors of these homes, without being charged for trespassing.
The more manicured landscape compliments the symmetry of the entrance to this 8 acre private estate.
– Winter Dream, Lyford Cay –
Formal and informal elements compliment each other at the entrance to this home.
Off the back porch you’ll find 600 feet of pink sand beach.
– Capricorn House, Eleuthera –
Nothing says island living like a driveway lined with coconut palms.
– Arawaka, Double Bay, Eleuthera –
An elevated front door which opens to a welcoming sea-breeze drifting through the porch’s back door.
– Conched Out, Andros –
Arrive to this sea-to-sea property by boat or automobile. I prefer boat.
– Hideaway, Marsh Harbour, Abaco –
